MIDWEST SPRINT CHALLENGE

The action will be fast and furious as the nation’s best sprinters converge on the NSC Velodrome during the Midwest Sprint Challenge, August 8-9. This new event features the strongest and fastest track cyclists in short, blistering sprint races.  The longest races will by 2000 meters, ensuring flying starts and thrilling finishes.  Racers will compete in classic sprint events, including:

 

  • »  Match Sprints – 2-3 racers covering 3 laps (750 meters)
  • »  Pack Sprints – up to 8 racers covering 3 laps from a standing start
  • »  Chariot races – pack sprints covering 2 laps from a standing start
  • »  Keirin – up to 8 racers covering 8 laps (2000 meters).  This race is unique in track cycling.  For the first 5 laps, racers are paced by a motorcycle!

 

The Olympic track cycling competitions begin on August 15, so this is a perfect time to experience Olympic-style racing first hand. Brush up on your track knowledge before you watch the world’s best in Beijing.
