We are so excited to have international teams back and participating in Target USA CUP. Out of the 950+ participating teams, there will be two coming from Norway.
Target USA CUP was initially modeled after Norway Cup, one of the worlds largest youth soccer tournaments which has been played annually since the 1970’s. The original name of Target USA CUP was the Son’s of Norway USA CUP.
Norway Cup and Target USA CUP have developed a partnership, where two teams are selected from each tournament to participate in the other. Team Lørenskog from Norway was selected from Norway Cup to attend Target USA CUP 2022.
We had the chance to ask Lørenskog team manager, Kristin Bali, about the boys and how they have prepared for the tournament.

HAS ANYONE ON YOUR TEAM BEEN TO THE UNITED STATES BEFORE?
“For some of the boys it is the first time overseas and outside Europe. One has been to the US before, in Orlando.”
What are you all looking forward to most at Target USA CUP?
“To meet other teams from all over the world and get new friends. We look forward to be with our football team and spend all this time together and create new and good memories. We are excited to travel all the way to the states and a new country.”
Has your team done any fundraising for the tournament?
“Yes we have. Because the boys have different financial backgrounds and we had the policy that everyone will be allowed to join the USA CUP, we had to fill up the team account. So we have worked hard to get all the money we need. Now I can proudly say that we have all the money to cover the trip for all 21 people who are traveling to the cup. We have among other things been emptying grocery stores that are rebuilding. We have arranged a football tournament, sold lottery tickets, picked garbage in our neighborhood and we got some sponsors. It has been a great experience and teamwork.”
What are the boys pregame rituals?
”Nothing special. But before a game we are joking and having fun. But when the game starts we are all focused.”
“The boys on our team are from different schools in the area and we also have many with minority backgrounds. But on the football field we are all one team. We have a special bond and we all have a passion for the sport. Where you come from or your backgrounds doesn’t matter.”
