Located in Västerås, Sweden, Rudbeckianska Gymnasiet secondary school is home to the incredible boys 19U team. This school was founded in 1623, and since then, its students have had the opportunity to blossom as both athletes and intellectuals.
This team has had an impressive history at USA CUP. They have been competing in the tournament since 2006, and they have taken home multiple weekend and weeklong championship titles. So, they came into this weekend confident and excited to play against other admirable teams. “What am I most excited for this weekend?” asked team captain Ludvig. “Winning!”
A few Rudbeckianska players explained that they had a tough journey to USA CUP, but after flight delays and multiple hours of travel, they arrived at the National Sports Center ready to compete. “Now that we are here, everything is going quite well,” remarked one of the players. You can say that again! After a weekend of tough competition, Rudbeckianska made it to the semifinals.
After winning 4-0 at their game on Friday, I had the opportunity to interview Rudbeckianska’s captains, Ludvig and Tobias.
Do you have a favorite team tradition?
Ludvig: “Winning.”
Tobias: “To cheer together. Before every game we chant with high spirits. It’s a very old Rudbeckianska team tradition that gives us power.”
What’s your favorite thing to eat before a game?
Ludvig: “Anything. I especially love anything that’s fried!”
Tobias: “Rudbeckianska has a great breakfast. I eat that a lot before big games. Well, I eat it all the time. But it’s good before a game!”
Is your team doing anything else fun before leaving Minnesota?
Ludvig: “We are going to Valleyfair after USA CUP, and a few days ago we were on a boat in Stillwater.”
Come out and see this incredible team play during the weeklong tournament! Their first game is Tuesday, July 12 at 12:15 on field 29. Until then, check out these action photos of their game from Friday.
