We are extremely proud to have Global FC play at this year’s Target USA CUP. This team comes from Kansas City, but the players have travelled much farther to be here in Blaine, MN.
For the past two months, this team has been being filmed for the documentary “Chasing Goals”. This project will be a feature length documentary that follows Global FC, a club comprised of refugees from 29 countries, and how these athletes overcome cultural difference, food insecurity, and crime, all while training to compete in this year’s Target USA CUP.
The 17 players that have made the trip are more pumped than ever to show the world what they’ve been training for, but this club goes much beyond the game of football.
Executive Director, Mariya Goodbrake, goes into more detail about what this club is about:
It goes beyond just soccer. Education, family support, mentorship, fatherhood, and many more are things we want to provide for these athletes. Soccer is just the gateway to all of these opportunities and it’s great to see our members succeed, both on and off the field.
Mariya Goodbrake, Executive Director
An incredible story with even more incredible people. The phrase “it takes a village” is a saying they follow wholeheartedly, and their support for these kids is unmatched.
