Meet Grace Johnson:
Grace Johnson just finished 8th grade at Westwood middle school. Grace is a member of the Spring Lake Park Varsity Girls Golf team.
Grace started taking group golf lessons through the First Tee program once a week at age 10. In the 7th grade, she joined the SLP golf team, where she really began to learn the game of golf. Grace enjoys golf as it helps her relax, and she finds it less stressful than other sports.
Grace is ecstatic to be one of 20 SLP varsity team members this year, and she’s definitely making a splash. She placed 27th overall in sections last week, carving out a new favorite golf memory for her. Despite the wind and rain, she played the best round of her career (scoring a 94). She was glad to see her Dad waiting for her at the 18th hole to give her a big hug once she finished.
Grace mentioned that she was thankful for her many role models in the game of golf, including:

The captains of her team always treat her kindly. This inspires Grace to be a kind leader when her turn comes to be a role model to younger girls on the team.

Victory Links GOLF INSTRUCTOR, JASON ERICKSON
Grace said that Jason has helped a lot with her swing and mental game throughout their few lessons together.
I asked Grace what advice she has for other young women in golf, and she said to always keep going and take advantage of all opportunities. She also said that you can play golf your whole life and that you should stick with it.
Additionally, she asserted the importance of a strong mentality for the game of golf. She says that if you ever have a bad shot, “shake it off and don’t let it get to you”.
In the future, Grace is considering playing golf in college and taking advantage of a potential scholarship to help her pay for school. She also mentioned that she would be interested in playing in a Pro-Am Event one day.

This year, Victory Links Golf Course will provide customers and staff an opportunity to write a woman who inspires them on a golf ball. All of the names will be displayed in the pro shop.
