Today’s Faces of the CUP is returning referee Justin Beiersdorf. Justin is from Minnesota, and he has reffed at Target USA CUP for the past 4 years. He is very excited to be back in action this year, especially since international teams are back!
USA CUP depends greatly on referees. The National Sports Center employs hundreds of referees for the tournament. Some of these referees are from Minnesota like Justin, but there are also many refs from around the world and out of state.
I was able to ask Justin a few questions about being a referee at USA CUP. Here’s what he had to say:
Why should people referee at Target USA CUP?
“It’s a really great environment. It’s great to be here, and it’s really cool to see such incredible teams from all over the world.”
What’s your favorite part about USA CUP?
“The teams! It’s so cool that teams from all over the world come to play in this tournament in Minnesota. It’s definitely special.”
What are you looking forward to this week?
“Reffing a lot of games. I’m also excited for the Opening Ceremonies. I go every year. It’s cool to see all the teams march.”
